World Oceans Day serves as a reminder to everyone of the ocean's role in everyday life. They are the planet's lungs, a vital source of food and medicine, and an important biosphere component.
The purpose of the day is to educate the public on the impact of human actions on the ocean, to build a global movement of ocean citizens, and to mobilize and unite the world's population around a project for sustainable ocean management. For 2022, the theme will be "Revitalization: Collective Action for the Ocean."

The Philippine Eagle Week (PEW) is observed every June 4-10 of each calendar year, according to Presidential Proclamation No. 79, series of 1999. The BMB intends to commemorate the PEW in Region 12 as a prelude to the release of the Philippine eagle Salagbanog, which is now in its 24th year of existence. Salagbanog was found in Salagbanog Falls, Bgy., after becoming entangled in thorny rattan vines while hunting a monkey. Ticulab, Sarangani Province, on January 9, 2021. The bird's X-rays revealed a large "jolen" beneath its skin, as well as a smaller pellet on the right collarbone.
This year's theme, "Kapayapaan at Kalayaan: Ang Agila at Mamamayan, May Kaugnayan," reminds us of our responsibility as land stewards, as well as the importance of the Philippine eagle and other species in supporting life on Earth. As responsible citizens, we must usher in a new era of devotion to save our vulnerable species, particularly our national bird. We must rise to the occasion and chart a course that will lead us to a better understanding of our national bird's situation. We must not undervalue the importance of birds in our ecosystems by dismissing the idea that some of these raptors are pests.
