Forests are considered one of the Philippines' most valuable natural resources, according to the Philippine Senate. They provide a wide range of ecological services, including food crops, livestock, and fish, as well as recreational activities.
In 2013, the forestry sector contributed Php 5.26 billion (0.12 percent) to the national gross domestic product (GDP) (2014 Philippine Statistical Yearbook).
Forests are also significant for biological conservation and environmental protection, educational and research opportunities, native flora and fauna habitat, and resettlement regions. According to the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), forests are home to 12-15 million indigenous peoples and constitute a source of income for many households.

The biotope that encompasses the physical region of life is referred to as the environment. The term "ecosystem" was originally used in 1935 by British ecologist Arthur Tansley in a journal. The size of an ecosystem can vary greatly. It might be a vast forest or a small pond. Different ecosystems are frequently divided by geographical barriers such as deserts, mountains, and oceans, or are otherwise isolated, such as lakes or rivers. (Balasubramanian, 2008)
